Our detachable X-Pac shoulder strap pockets are the perfect place to keep necessities like sunglasses, phone, snacks, or your car keys. The black mesh pocket on the outside front of the shoulder strap pocket is a great place to store your phone, SPOT, or Snickers Bar without having to unzip the main pocket.

There are 2 clips on the back of the pockets which attach to the 3/4 strap that runs up the shoulder straps on ULA packs. If you want to use these on a different pack, you need to have either a narrow strap or a daisy chain running up the strap to be able to attach these pockets. Pockets are sold as singles (one), so if you want a pocket for each strap, be sure to order two. The large size pocket is one inch longer and was made to accommodate larger sized phones. If you have a big phone, and you plan to carry it in your shoulder pocket, be sure to get the large sized pocket!

Our Verdict

I’ve been using the large X-Pac version (48g), which fits my phone and sunglasses. If you carry a bigger phone, it’s definitely worth the extra grams—I found the medium too snug. The VX21 fabric feels solid, and the mesh front is surprisingly useful. Attachment is simple on ULA packs, though there’s a bit of bounce with heavier items. Still, it’s quick to grab what you need—no digging through your pack.
